Issue 01 Summer 2027

A signature,
not a survey.

The first issue is not built to be comprehensive. It is built to establish a signature. A reader who finishes Issue 01 should be able to say, in one sentence, what this publication is — and that sentence should not resemble anything they would say about any other founder magazine.

Target launch

Summer 2027

Cadence

Twice a year. Two issues per year. Annual hardcover, December.

Length

60 – 100 pages. If resources tighten, 30 pages at A+ beats 80 at average.

Cover

A single black-and-white portrait, paired with one sentence in the founder’s own words. No logos. No product. No headline list.

The RhythmFront to back, by design.

The five sections are not assembled in arbitrary order. They follow a deliberate rhythm:

Short to long to deep to actionable to far. The reader enters on a single sharpened sentence, is pulled into a human being, is given a framework to understand the world around that person, is handed tools to act on it, and is sent away with a vision of where it is all going. This is the structural argument of every issue.

If Resources TightenThe compression rule.

If the editorial calendar slips or the team is not yet at full strength, the right move is not to compress all five sections into a thinner version. The right move is to ship three sections at extraordinary quality — Signals, one Founder Story, one Prediction — and use Issue 02 to introduce the rest.

A thirty-page Issue 01 executed with discipline is more valuable than an eighty-page Issue 01 executed at average quality. The magazine cannot recover from publishing a weak piece in Issue 01. It can recover from publishing a smaller one.

The Cover DecisionThe single most consequential editorial call.

The cover defines the publication to anyone who never reads inside. The first cover establishes the visual identity and editorial seriousness for the publication’s entire future. We are taking the decision seriously.

What appears on every cover, of every issue, without exception: a single founder portrait in black and white, paired with one sentence the founder said that the rest of the world has not yet understood. No logos. No product. No issue-blurb. The discipline is the design.

No logos. No product. No headline list. A face and a sentence.

TimelineFrom now to launch.

Interviews conducted. Essays drafted. Playbook teardown reported with numbers in hand. Predictions commissioned.

2027 January — Production.

Layout, typography, fact-checking, image direction. The thirteen-week production cycle compressed to ten for Issue 01 — possible only because the section count is held to what can ship cleanly.
